French President Emmanuel Macron and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks in Paris. The leaders discussed support for Ukraine, as well as sanctions against Russia, writes the press service of the Elysee Palace.
"This meeting is another opportunity to confirm the need for the unity of European countries in their support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, in particular, through the strict application of sanctions against Russia," the statement reads.
The leaders discussed the ratification of Finland's and Sweden's accession to NATO, as well as reforms of mutual interest, which should take place in the coming weeks in the Hungarian parliament.
European industrial policy and competitiveness, migration, and joint development of the defense industry were among other topics on the agenda.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he may have to rethink his cozy relations with Russia in the future due to the change in geopolitical realities after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
Orbán has come under heavy criticism from allies in the European Union and NATO for continuing close ties with Russia even after the Russian army's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Orban was also criticized for speaking out against EU sanctions against Moscow and the ban on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Orban himself has previously repeatedly stated that he will try to maintain relations with Russia.
