On the anniversary of the application for joining the EU, Zelenskyі called for the start of the negotiation process

This year, the time has come to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі wrote about this on Twitter on Tuesday.

Zelenskyi recalled that a year ago, on the fifth day of a full-scale war, Ukraine submitted an application to join the European Union and subsequently received candidate status.

"This year, the time has come to decide on the start of membership negotiations," the president said.

The head of state emphasized that it was Ukraine that united the EU like never before.

"It is Ukraine that protects European values for future generations. It is in Ukraine that Europe becomes whole, free and peaceful. Together in the struggle, together in victory. Long live Europe! Long live freedom!" - Zelenskyі wrote.

It will be recalled that at the Ukraine-EU summit in early February, Kyiv declared its goal to start accession negotiations in 2023, and Brussels, in turn, agreed to submit an interim assessment of the implementation of the seven recommendations in the spring.

Meanwhile, according to the assessment of a consortium of expert organizations, the average level of Ukraine's fulfillment of EU requirements in the context of candidate status exceeded 5 points on a 10-point scale. Fulfillment of all seven requirements of the European Commission is key to the start of accession negotiations.
