The government of Georgia has driven itself into isolation, said the country's president Salome Zurabishvili at an event dedicated to the anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
"I cannot but express my regret that the government of Georgia has driven itself into isolation, separated itself from the democratic community and is trying to justify its incomprehensible to everyone, supposedly neutral and balanced position," she said.
Zurabishvili believes that this position is incomprehensible on the part of the state, which has repeatedly gone through the same tests.
"Fortunately, Georgian society expressed its position very clearly, used all forms and means to prove its full solidarity with the country that has been friendly to us for ages. The streets of Tbilisi have repeatedly shown us where the Georgian people stand. On behalf of this society, personally, as the president of this country, during this year I expressed unwavering support of Georgia to Ukraine in all possible places and formats, and I will continue to do so," the president said.
At the same time, as noted by Salome Zurabishvili, she regrets that Georgia is represented in Kyiv only by the opposition.
"I believe that if not the government of Georgia, then the president of Georgia should have been in Kyiv today, and I expressed my readiness for this in time. Unfortunately, I did not receive an invitation. Despite the invitation, the parliament did not consider it necessary to send an official delegation to Kyiv. It is a pity that because of this we are represented in Kyiv today only by the opposition, although I am still glad that they are there. It is clear to everyone that Georgia does not have such means of assistance as much stronger European countries, which are given guarantees of the security of the European Union's borders and membership in NATO. If our solidarity is mostly expressed on a moral level, we should defend our principles even more decisively," said Salome Zurabishvili (quote from the Public Broadcaster).
As the "News-Georgia" agency writes, after the speech of the president of Georgia, whose residence was lit up all night with the colors of the Ukrainian flag, giant flags of the two countries were unfurled.
