On Wednesday, February 22, the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) adopted a statement submitted by 94 deputies in support of the people of Ukraine.
This is reported by the ERR portal.
85 members of parliament voted for the adoption of the statement.
In addition to supporting Ukraine, the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's peace plan and sending Russian war criminals to trial, the statement also calls for not allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games.
"The Riigikogu condemns attempts to allow athletes representing the regimes of Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions and the Olympic Games, violating the principles of the Olympic Charter. Neither the International Olympic Committee nor any other person can maintain neutrality regarding the war waged by the Russian terrorist regime and of the crimes of genocide committed by him; to cover up the aforementioned crimes with the Olympic flag is immoral and impermissible," the statement said.
Since the beginning of last year, Riigikogu has issued five statements and one appeal in support of Ukraine and condemnation of Russia's activities. On January 18, the parliament adopted a statement submitted by 28 members of the Riigikogu in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine; February 23 - a statement submitted by 86 members of the Riigikogu regarding Russia's aggression against Ukraine; March 14 - an appeal submitted by 28 members of the Riigikogu to the parliaments of the member states of the European Union and NATO and other states with a call to support the introduction of additional sanctions and the official statement of Ukraine regarding the acquisition of the status of a candidate state of the European Union; April 21 - a statement in support of Ukraine submitted by 84 members of the Riigikogu; April 21 - a statement in support of Ukraine submitted by 84 members of the Riigikogu.
