The creation of the Iron Dome air defense system over Ukraine, similar to the one used in Israel, is physically impossible in the coming years, it requires too much equipment and resources, said Yuriy Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"In the coming years, we will not create any "dome" over the entire territory of Ukraine - it is physically impossible, because it is simply impossible to place air defense systems along such a length of our borders and cover strategically important objects in the middle of the country. It must be a huge amount of equipment, it incredibly expensive, it requires huge state and human resources, in particular," Ignat said on the air of the national telethon on Tuesday.
At the same time, he noted that the air defense system in other countries of the world, such as the USA and Europe, overlaps certain directions and certain objects.
"Another part of the state's air defense is performed by fighters - multi-purpose aircraft that are part of air defense," the spokesman said.
He emphasized that in order for this to happen quickly and efficiently, new planes with modern radars, modern missiles, and targeting navigation systems are needed.
"The aircraft that we want to get, the first candidate is the F-16 of a certain modification, which could perform tasks in the air, in particular, in terms of covering the airspace," Ignat said.
