The prospect of Georgia joining the European Union is directly related to the case of former president Mykhailo Saakashvili. Member of the European Parliament Jacek Saryusz-Volskyi wrote about this on Twitter on December 27.
According to him, the deputies will not support Tbilisi's European aspirations if Saakashvili dies in prison.
"The European Parliament will never vote for Georgia's membership in the EU if the former president is imprisoned and dies in prison," he wrote.
Parallels between @Saakashvili< /a> case and prospects of Georgia joining EU are fundamentally imperative!

It should be noted that this is how Saryush-Volsky reacted to the statement made by the general secretary of the ruling party "Georgian Dream", the mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze. On December 26, he said that Saakashvili is serving a fair sentence and the Georgian government will continue working towards full membership in the European Union.
