The US has mobilized an additional $4.5 billion in grants to directly finance the budget as part of its unwavering commitment to support Ukraine, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced on Tuesday.
"These funds will begin to be allocated in the coming weeks and will help the government of Ukraine defend itself against Russia's illegal war by strengthening economic stability and supporting basic public services, including salaries for hospital workers, civil servants and teachers, as well as social assistance for the elderly and vulnerable categories of citizens," - says the statement of the head of the US Treasury on his website.
Yellen noted that, combined with US security assistance and the immense bravery of the Ukrainian people, these funds are an important tool in Ukraine's resistance to Putin's unprovoked invasion.
The head of the Ministry of Finance clarified that these payments will bring the total amount of direct budget support to Ukraine to $13 billion, all in the form of grants.
"We call on other donors to increase and accelerate their aid to Ukraine. In addition to providing economic support, the Treasury Department and the US government will continue to use all of our tools, including our historic sanctions coalition, to weaken Putin's war machine," Yellen said.
