The countries of the West chose the wrong position regarding the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, sending Kyiv "scrap metal" in the form of military aid. Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this on Wednesday, September 7, during a joint briefing with Serbian President Oleksandr Vucic in Belgrade, Anadolu agency reports.
Erdogan assured that Ankara adheres to a balanced policy towards the Russian Federation and Ukraine and advocates an early ceasefire. However, according to the Turkish leader, the current state of affairs suggests that a full-scale war will not end soon. The President of Turkey added that he openly declares the fallacy of the Western countries' position on this issue, which, according to him, "provoke" Moscow and Kyiv.
"They say they are sending weapons. They are sending all the scrap metal they have to Ukraine," Erdogan said.
The Turkish leader admitted that any efforts to achieve peace will be fruitless for now as long as the provocation of hostilities continues.
"Can you say that one of the sides is winning now? No! There are no winners in this war, but there are a lot of people who have lost. A lot of people are dying, and it is inappropriate to talk about the financial side," Erdoğan emphasized.
According to the President of Turkey, Europe itself is to blame for the fact that the Russian Federation is blocking its gas supply, and fuel prices in the region are rising.
"Now everywhere they are looking for ways to overcome the winter season. Why didn't you think about it before? After all, Russia has an important resource in its hands. Instead, they are now analyzing gas storage reserves," added the Turkish leader, Focus reports.
