Russia has increased its use of air defense missiles for ground attacks because of an acute shortage of specialized missiles for striking ground targets.
A daily British intelligence report said.
"Russia has almost certainly deployed strategic S-300 and S-400 air defense systems, designed to destroy long-range aircraft and missiles, near Ukraine since the start of the invasion," the report said.
It is noted that these weapons have relatively small warheads designed to hit aircraft. They could pose a significant threat to troops in open and light buildings, but are unlikely to penetrate reinforced structures.
"There is a high probability that these weapons will miss their intended targets and result in civilian casualties because the missiles are not optimized for this role and system calculators will have little training for such missions," the statement said.
It is also mentioned that on July 21, the governor of Mykolaiv Region, Vitaliy Kim, said that Russian troops used seven anti-aircraft missile systems to hit infrastructure, energy facilities and storage facilities.
As a reminder, the British intelligence chief said that the Russian military was likely to take a certain operational pause in the next few weeks.
