Information about the possible use of chemical weapons by Russian occupants in Mariupol is being verified; it may have been phosphorus munitions, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on national TV marathon.

"As of now we are checking this information, trying to understand what (it was - ed.). But, I can talk about preliminary data that, there is still, rather, an assumption that it was phosphorus ammunition, perhaps, were. But the final official information will come later," Malyar said.

The deputy head of the Defense Ministry added that "the risk of the use of chemical weapons" by Russian forces "does exist, and it is quite high."

We recall that on April 11, the Azov regiment reported that in Mariupol the occupants used a poisonous substance of unknown origin against the military and civilians.

Head of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said that Ukraine is waiting for official confirmation of the use of chemical weapons by Russian occupants in Mariupol and for a response from the world.
