Tbilisi Mayor Kaladze: Ukrainian accusations of smuggling are "shameful"

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said Kyiv's claims that Tbilisi is helping Russia import goods to circumvent international sanctions are "shameful" and that Georgia is waiting for evidence from Ukraine.

"This was a shameful statement along with other similar statements we have heard lately from Kyiv. We are waiting for the Ukrainian side to present evidence, because the accusations were made by them. Ukraine, not us, is obliged to present evidence," Kaladze said.

He said Ukraine was at war and Georgian officials refrained from making critical comments.

"We are doing everything to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We have taken a number of important decisions at international platforms, which our strategic partners also openly declare. Categorically unacceptable are the shameful statements that have been coming from Kyiv in recent days," Kaladze said.

He says the Georgian Dream government is doing "everything possible" not to harm the interests of the country and the Georgian people.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said today that Tbilisi should present evidence that the country is not helping Russia, to which Tbilisi responded that the statement was "illogical," since the accusations were made by Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate earlier reported on Facebook that the Ossians were establishing a channel for smuggling subsanctioned goods through Georgia's territory.
