An investigation into the kidnapping by Russian occupants of a 12-year-old girl from Mariupol in the Donetsk region has begun, the Office of the Prosecutor General said.
"According to the investigation, the child had been in Mariupol with her father since the beginning of the war. On March 17, 2022, due to a shell hitting their house, the man died. The girl tried to evacuate from the city along with other local residents. While trying to leave Mariupol, she was injured by a mine explosion. After that, the child was kidnapped by the Russian Armed Forces and taken to the occupied Donbas territory under their control," the Office of the Prosecutor General said.
About the disappearance of the girl reported her own grandfather, who is forced to live in Chernivtsi, added the prosecutor's office.
Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office initiated proceedings for violation of laws and customs of war (part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
