The United States and its allies are planning new sanctions on more sectors of the Russian economy that are critical to its continued invasion of Ukraine, including supply chains.
U.S. Treasury Undersecretary Wally Adeyem made the announcement Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Adeyem, speaking in London during a trip to Europe to consult with allies on strengthening and enforcing sanctions against Russia, said the expanded effort was aimed at undermining "the Kremlin's ability to run its war machine."
"In addition to sanctions on companies in sectors that contribute to the Kremlin's malevolent activities, we also plan to take action to disrupt their critical supply chains," Adeyem said.
"These are actions we will take in coordination with more than 30 partners and allies who have joined our coalition in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine," he added, without naming specific sectors or companies.
He noted that the multilateral response to Russian aggression demonstrates that the international financial system and economic market are closed to those who do not respect basic principles of territorial integrity.
As reported, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing sanctions against Russian companies that provide goods and services to the military and intelligence services, including dual-use components used for weapons proliferation.
