Austrian Chancellor Karl Negammer supported the launch of Nord Stream-2. According to him, the Russian pipeline "is an important project that gives the European Union security of supply," reports Liga.Biznes.
"I expect that Nord Stream 2 can be put into operation soon, as planned," the chancellor said in an interview with Die Welt.
Negammer believes that Nord Stream 2 and Moscow's escalation in eastern Ukraine are not connected. Moreover, blocking the pipe "would only hurt the EU." He stated that EU countries must be provided with energy resources from as many sources as possible and "there must be appropriate pipelines."
The chancellor disagreed with the U.S. position to use the pipeline as a lever of influence on the Kremlin because of aggression against Ukraine.
