Kyiv: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated 120 finalists of the contest for the positions of judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.

"For the first time in the history of our country, the formation of the Supreme Court takes place through an open, transparent and extremely competitive competition. For the first time the composition of the highest judicial instance is formed with the active participation of the community", - said Poroshenko.

He also noted that all the dossiers of the final candidates for the position of judges are on the official website, and therefore anyone can revise them.

Poroshenko also stressed that after the introduction of electronic declaration of property and fortune, about 2000 judges decided to quite work or resign. Thus, the process of "self-cleaning" is going on.

Today, on July 28, 120 finalists of the competition for positions of judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine were announced.

In the process of judicial reform in Ukraine, for the first time on a competitive basis, a new Supreme Court is being formed. The competition for the first 120 positions began on November 7, 2016. Further, the Supreme Council of Justice examines the dossier of each and then prepares a submission for their appointment to the President of Ukraine.

On September 30, 2016, the Law "On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (Regarding Justice)" No. 1401-VIII and the Law "On Judicial System and Status of Judges" No. 1402-VIII entered into force, which provides for the formation of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
