Prague: The Czech Security Information Service reported on the involvement of Russian hackers in cyber attacks on the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. It was noted that Moscow planned to use the information obtained in the interests of intelligence diplomats. This was stated in the BIS report on the results of 2017.

"It was probably the largest and most prominent Russian campaign of cyber espionage",  the document says.

Particularly, the report states that in 2016-2017, hackers managed to hack the information system of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and gain access to mailboxes for about a hundred and fifty employees of the department and copy the information there. The attackers also received a lot of information useful for new attacks on other Czech state structures.

In addition, the Czech intelligence service reported that it was able to detect several cyber attacks on Czech military installations, in particular, to crack several e-mail accounts belonging to employees of the Ministry of Defense and military personnel of the Czech army. Although the information received was not significant, they did gain access to personal data and information, which can later be used for other illegal activities.

According to experts, in 2017, Russian intelligence officers continued to work actively in the Czech Republic under diplomatic cover. Such a situation, in their opinion, especially increases the risks of leakage of official information with limited access from unwary Czech politicians and civil servants.

"The Czech Republic remains the target of Russia's actions, and is part of a hybrid strategy against NATO and the EU," the Czech intelligence service gave this warning.

Recall, as reported by the Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Daniel Ray Coats , during open hearings on the Senate Intelligence Committee, the Russian Federation will conduct cyber attacks against Ukraine.
