KYIV (FNI) - Turkey remembers the annexation of the Crimea and calls for not forgetting this and the European countries, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. According to him, Ankara is ready to provide Kyiv with all possible support.

During a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavel Klimkin and leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, Cavusoglu said that Turkey does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia and continues to consider it an annexation. He also called for not forgetting about this and other countries.

"We will never forget about what happened in the Crimea, never. We consider the incident to be an annexation of the Crimea, "the minister said during a meeting with members of the Association of Culture and Aid to Crimean Tatars.

He stressed that Ankara has always supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Some European countries, Cavusoglu noted, began to "forget" what happened in the Crimea. In his opinion, in that case, they should also be responsible for what is happening in Ukraine. "We remind them that if you now forget about the Crimea and tomorrow something happens in Ukraine, you will be responsible for this," the minister stressed.

The Turkish Foreign Minister confirmed that Ankara will continue to assist Kyiv and "will never forget that Crimea is part of Ukraine". He said that soon two countries will be ready to sign an agreement on the establishment of a free trade zone. In addition, Cavusoglu noted the development of relations between the two countries in the sphere of tourism and recalled that last year 1.4 million Ukrainian tourists visited Turkey.

Turkey has repeatedly stated that it is on the side of Ukraine on the Crimean issue. In October, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his readiness to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine. At the same time, he did not directly answer the question of the possibility of imposing anti-Russian sanctions.

Ankara is making efforts to support the Crimean Tatars, including those opposing the annexation of the Crimea to Russia. Soon after that it became known that Turkey acted as an intermediary in the transfer of activists of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiyhoz and Ilmi Umerov, who were convicted in Russia for appeals for violating the territorial integrity and organizing riots. On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, political prisoners - deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiyhoz and deputy prime minister of the Crimean government Ilmi Umerov were released from prison in the Crimea annexed by Russia and extradited to Turkey.

In March 2014 the Crimean peninsula was illegally annexed by Russia. The vast majority of world states did not recognize this annexation. in general 7 countries have recognized annexation. Ukraine raises the question of the return of the Crimea in all international venues.
