Palermo: The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the OSCE Austria presiding in the OSCE, Michael Linhart, stated that it is necessary to channel migrant flows along legal paths in order to save more lives. He stated this at the OSCE conference on migrants.

"Organized networks of smugglers use migrants in vulnerable situations and put lives and health at risk. There is still much to do to direct irregular flows into legal ways and thereby save lives, "Linhart said.

Also, the secretary general of the Austrian Foreign Ministry said the relevance of the issue of the return of foreign terrorist fighters, in this regard, he called for the expansion of the exchange of information.

The International Organization for Migration published updated statistics on migrant movements across the Mediterranean in 2017. The number of deaths due to shipwrecks increased to 2,775 people.
