Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Independence Day.

"In the congratulation, Putin noted that this year Russia and Armenia celebrate two significant dates - the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. The President of Russia highly appreciated the progress achieved in the development of the entire range of bilateral relations, as well as effective Russian-Armenian interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the CSTO and the CIS," the Kremlin press service reported.

Today, on September 21, the Republic of Armenia celebrates Independence Day. It was on this day 26 years ago that the country held a referendum on the withdrawal of the republic from the Soviet Union.
