Kyiv: NATO’s North Atlantic Council convenes an emergency meeting after Washington’s official announcement of the US withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty, the Alliance’s press service said.
“At the NATO summit in 2018, heads of state and government of NATO countries expressed their concern about the selective application of the Open Skies Treaty by Russia, and that this fact undermines the security of the alliance.
''We are particularly concerned about the fact that Russia has limited flights over its individual areas. The allies intend to intensively consult on the future of this treaty,” says the report.
As previously reported, President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty in connection with Russia's "violations" of the "memorandum".
At the same time, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is confident that Russia is using the Open Skies Treaty for personal purposes.
