Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, July 5, holds a meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abdul-Gheit.

The General Secretary of the Arab League arrived in Moscow at the invitation of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, earlier they met a little more than a month ago in Cairo as part of the visit to Egypt of the foreign and defense ministers of Russia.

Lavrov and Abdul-Gheit talked about the fight against terrorism and settlement of various conflicts and crises in the Arab countries.

"LAS, we are deeply convinced, is playing an increasingly important role in efforts to calm the situation in various parts of the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in this role being further strengthened, "Lavrov said during the meeting.

Earlier it was reported that Lavrov will hold consultations with the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, which will be in Moscow on July 4-6.

Syrian human rights organization "Syrian Human Rights Network" stated that Russian troops supported Assad during the chemical attack. According to human rights activists, the strikes of Russian aircraft were aimed at finishing off people affected by the chemical attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that there is no evidence of the use of chemical weapons by Asad.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons stated that during the chemical attack in Syria on April 4 of this year, sarin was used.

In Russia, they reacted to the UN report on the use of sarin in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed doubts about this document.

As reported, on June 5, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the state of supporting the terrorist groups ISIS and Al-Qaeda. Then the Maldives, Yemen, Libya, Chad, Mauritania, the Union of the Comoros and a number of other states also issued statements on the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar.
