Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, July 5, holds a meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abdul-Gheit.
The General Secretary of the Arab League arrived in Moscow at the invitation of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, earlier they met a little more than a month ago in Cairo as part of the visit to Egypt of the foreign and defense ministers of Russia.
Lavrov and Abdul-Gheit talked about the fight against terrorism and settlement of various conflicts and crises in the Arab countries.
"LAS, we are deeply convinced, is playing an increasingly important role in efforts to calm the situation in various parts of the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in this role being further strengthened, "Lavrov said during the meeting.
Earlier it was reported that Lavrov will hold consultations with the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, which will be in Moscow on July 4-6.
Syrian human rights organization "Syrian Human Rights Network" stated that Russian troops supported Assad during the chemical attack.
