Kiev: US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent spoke about the “campaign of lies” against Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch on behalf of US President Rudi Giuliani’s personal attorney and former
Attorney General Yuriy Lutsenko, who were joined by the so-called gunmen.
This is stated in the published transcript of his testimony in Congress.
"The two found each other useful", - Kent said of Lutsenko and Giuliani.
"Based on what I know, Yuri Lutsenko, as the attorney general, vowed revenge and provided information to Rudi Giuliani in the hope that he would distribute it and this would lead to her (Marie Yovanovitch) recall", - Kent said.
He said that Lutsenko even met in private with Giuliani in New York, and his goal was to "muddy" Jovanovic and Kent himself.
According to him, the "campaign of lies" in relation to Jovanovic was mainly conducted by Lutsenko and Giuliani, however, the so-called "gunboats" also joined.
He described the "gunboats" as Internet trolls, especially active on Facebook, acting in support of the then president Poroshenko and against people who were perceived as opponents of Poroshenko.
"I used to mention the so-called" gunboats ", trolls on social networks that actively supported Poroshenko. But 10 days before the election, instead of attacking Russia or its political opponents, as they usually did, they attacked Ambassador Jovanovic and me in person, "Kent said.
The diplomat also added that the director of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Nazar Kholodnitsky and the prosecutor Konstantin Kulik were allegedly involved in the resignation of Jovanovic.
