Kiev: On Sunday, the German ship Alan Kurdi was able to call at a port in southern Italy and land 88 migrants rescued at sea.
This was reported by the human rights organization Sea-eye, operating the vessel.
“88 rescued today safely off the board of Alan Kurdi in the port of Taranto”, - rescuers report.
The ship, which took people aboard a week ago when they were shelled by the Libyan coast guard, spent six days at sea near the island of Lampedusa, awaiting permission. During this time, several countries agreed to distribute refugees. In particular, Germany and France will receive 60 people, Portugal - five, Ireland - two. In Italy, 21 migrants will remain.
"Alan Kurdi" repeatedly saved the refugees and at the same time constantly had to wait days for permission to call at least at some port. The reason is the uncertainty between the EU countries on the distribution of refugees.
According to the Federal Office for Asylum of Germany, this year Germany will receive from 140 thousand to 145 thousand asylum applications.
