Kiev: Ambassador of the United States of America to the European Union Gordon Sondland appealed to representatives of Ukraine with a request to conduct an investigation about her alleged interference in the US presidential election in 2016. This was a condition for organizing a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky.
This was stated during the testimony of the impeachment of the President of the United States by Alexander Windman, Director of European Affairs of the US National Security Council. The text of Windman's speech to Congress was published by Politico.
In particular, according to the official, Sondland raised the issue of “certain investigations” before the Ukrainian side when she visited Washington on an official visit on July 10. As you know, then the head of the National Security and Defense Council Alexander Danilyuk and the presidential aide, Andrei Yermak, traveled from Ukraine to the United States from Ukraine.
Following Sondland’s words about the investigation, according to Windman, then-Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton “immediately closed the meeting.”
“After that meeting, a planned discussion of its results took place, at which Ambassador Sondland emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s investigation into the 2016 elections, Biden and Burisma”, - Windman added.
It should be noted that US charge d'Affaires in Ukraine William Taylor spoke about the same thing in his testimony before Congress on October 22. True, he learned about the content of the meeting on July 10, in particular, from Windman.
In his official duties at the US National Security Council, Alexander Windman also deals with the issue of Ukraine. Interestingly, he is of Ukrainian descent: according to The New York Times, his family moved to the United States when Alexander was three years old.
