Details: Former political scientist Karachon, who was supported by a wide range of opposition parties, has already called the victory "historic".
Istvan Tarlon, the acting mayor and representative of the party “Fides - Hungarian Civil Union”, headed by the current Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, gained 45%.
This is the first election hit for Orban since he came to power in 2010.
Fides conducted an extremely negative campaign, attacking Karachony for his allegedly immigration stance and his unsuitability for work, while Orban threatened to stop working with the municipalities in which his party had lost the election.
