Kiev: The US Department of State approved the sale of 150 Javelin anti-tank systems and related equipment to Ukraine for an amount not exceeding $ 39.2 millions, “Reuters” writes referring to a statement by the US Department of Defense on October 3.
The Voice of America Russian service, citing the defense security agency, notes that "selling arms to Ukraine will not change the overall military balance in the region".
The agency said that a message about a possible sale is required by law and does not mean that the transaction is completed.
Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression in the spring of 2014, Ukraine has been negotiating with the United States on the supply of lethal weapons. Until the spring of 2018, Washington supplied Kiev only with non-lethal assistance and helped in the preparation of the Ukrainian military. On March 1, 2018, the U.S. Department of State decided to sell Javelin to Ukraine. May 22 Javelin was tested for the first time in Ukrain.
On August 5, 2019, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to Ukraine
William Taylor said that Kiev had turned to Washington with a request to sell
more anti-tank missile systems. September 9, Taylor said that the United States
is ready to sell weapons, conditions are agreed upon at the government level
