Kiev: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that thanks to the support of international partners, it will be possible to achieve the return of Ukrainian territories by political and diplomatic means, ending the war and establishing peace. He stated this during his participation in the Dialogue of Leaders at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
"No state can achieve sustainable
development without peace and a sense of security. Sustainable development is
impossible with the sound of gunfire and explosions, impossible where
aggressive geopolitical strategies dominate, the invasion of other states and
the violation of human rights and freedoms are applauded", - he said.
The President assured that Ukraine is committed to its commitments regarding the Sustainable Development Goals - a national strategic framework has been created to achieve them, a mechanism for implementing goals and monitoring this process is functioning.
“Our tasks are to significantly increase the economy to overcome poverty and increase employment, an effective reform of law enforcement and the judiciary, and the completion of decentralization reform”, - the head of state said.
However, according to him, the indicators of Ukraine can and should be much better, because the country has chosen the right path to development, and now it's time to move along it faster and more confidently.
The second barrier is much more complicated. And we cannot defeat it without international support. This is a war due to Russian aggression against Ukraine", - Zelensky emphasized. The President recalled that due to the occupation of Crimea and part of the Donbass in Ukraine, critical infrastructure and industrial facilities were destroyed, and inter-sectoral ties were lost.
“But most importantly, Ukraine has lost more than 13 thousand citizens. These are not only professional soldiers, but also volunteers. Among the dead are doctors, teachers, athletes, scientists, researchers, artists, musicians, journalists, human rights activists. Everyone could contribute to development not only of Ukraine, but of the whole world. But this, unfortunately, is impossible", - the head of state emphasized.
