Tbilisi: Vice Admiral of the NATO Navy Clive Johnstone met with the head of the Georgian Interior Ministry Giorgi Gakharia.

This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

At the meeting, the sides discussed issues of practical cooperation between the border police of Georgia and the naval command of NATO, as well as strengthening the capacity of the coast guard.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia spoke about the importance of the participation of the tactical units of the coast guard of Georgia in the maritime security operation “Marine Guard” and expressed a desire to successfully complete the process of assessment and certification of coast guard brigades.

"It should be noted that after the certification process is completed, the Georgian Coast Guard will train, equip and certify brigades in accordance with NATO standards, and these groups will be given the status of the NATO Response Force," the statement said.

Gakharia also thanked the Vice Admiral for his contribution to strengthening the capacity of the Georgian coast guard and for helping to train the Georgian units.

NATO Admiral Sir Clive Johnstone, commander of NATO’s Allied Navy Command, will leave Georgia tomorrow.

This is the first visit of the commander to Georgia.

We recall that about 80% of Georgian citizens support the country's membership in the European Union and NATO.
