Kyiv: The US Treasury Department on Wednesday, February 13, reported that two Iranian organizations, eight individuals associated with them from Iran and another citizen of this country were included in the sanctions list for involvement in the activities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Armed Forces of Iran).
"The Treasury Department is taking measures against Iranian individuals operating in cyberspace and carrying out undercover operations against the Americans in their homeland and abroad. These measures have been taken as part of efforts to counter the cyber attacks of the Iranian regime," the department’s press service said citing Steven Mnuchin.
The Secretary of the Treasury noted that one of the organizations that fell under the sanctions of the New Horizon Organization supported the IRGC and "held international conferences that were a platform for Iranian intelligence officers to recruit people and gather intelligence from the participants in these events". Other organization Net Peygard Samavat Company, according to the US authorities, has attempted to introduce malicious software into computer systems of current and former US counterintelligence agents.
