Kyiv: EU Ambassadors have given the EU Council Presidency a mandate to negotiate with the European Parliament to change the gas directive. On this Friday, February 8, the press service of the Council of the European Union reported.

In particular, it is indicated that the proposed changes provide for the extension of the EU gas market rules to gas pipelines from and to third countries.

"The purpose of the amendments to the gas directive is to ensure that the rules governing the domestic gas market in the EU are applied to gas transmission lines between the Member State and a third country," the statement said.

The EU Council expects that this will make the regulatory framework of the European Union more consistent, increase transparency and provide legal certainty for both investors in the gas infrastructure and network users.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the European Union countries had agreed to regulate the project of Nord Stream 2.
