Kyiv: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro categorically rejected the call of European countries to call for early presidential elections after opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself the interim leader of the country.
This Maduro said in an interview with Spanish television La Sexta.
“I will not give in to the pressure of those who call for my resignation. They are trying to drive us into a corner with ultimatums to lead us into an extreme situation of confrontation,” said Maduro.
Earlier, he also said that he does not exclude the likelihood of the current political crisis in the country going into a civil war.
After a high-ranking Venezuelan air force general, Francisco Yanes supported opposition leader Juan Guaido, Maduro appealed to Venezuelan soldiers, calling for "maximum cohesion."
