Kyiv: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko received a delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which arrived in Kyiv to participate in the liturgy and the enthronement of the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Epiphanius.
This was reported by the press service of Petro Poroshenko.
“I want to convey my warmest congratulations and words of gratitude to His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for this event. This happened and became possible due to his great love for Ukraine and Ukrainians,” said the president.
He noted that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine has come a long way toward uniting and obtaining a tomos about autocephaly, which has become possible, including thanks to the efforts of the exarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
In turn, the Metropolitan of Gallia, Emmanuel, assured the head of state of the constant support of Ukraine and the new Orthodox Church from the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
“His Holiness moved forward on the issue of granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian church because the people of Ukraine asked for it. And you were also the first citizen of Ukraine who assumed, I would say, a risk, but at the same time a great opportunity,” he said.
Metropolitan of Gallia also stressed that the enthronement of the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine is an important historical moment.
