Tbilisi: The Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia has the wisdom to make a wise decision about Ukraine’s autocephaly - said the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Metropolitan of France Emmanuel after meeting with the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
According to him: "It was a fraternal meeting between the fraternal churches."
“I want to express the special joy that we are in Georgia, and we have the opportunity to meet again with the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. Certain issues were discussed at the meeting, an exchange of views took place between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarchate of Georgia. Of course, we talked about the issue of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church and about Tomos,” said Metropolitan Emmanuel.
According to the statement of Metropolitan Emmanuel, the purpose of the meeting was to inform on certain details related to the Ukrainian Church.
“As for the autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine, our goal was not to impose any opinion, exert pressure or make a proposal. It was only an informative meeting and coordination of details on the issues referred to in Tomos. The Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia has the wisdom to make a wise decision. It was a fraternal, ecclesiastical and coordinated meeting between representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Georgian Church,” said Emmanuel.
According to him, the meeting discussed all the topics that face the Orthodox Church today.
“Our main goal is to preserve the unity of the Orthodox churches and we talked about this. We did not come because we have a problem with the Georgian Church, we have common ideas and opinions, ”said the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
