Kyiv: Moscow announced the possibility of an exchange of Ukrainian seamen for Russians imprisoned in Ukraine this year in order to look at the reaction of the Ukrainian side and to increase Putin’s political rating inside the Russian Federation.
Such an opinion was expressed by the Ombudsperson for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament, Lyudmyla Denisova.
"I think that Putin will use our seamen as an item of bargaining in order to increase political popularity in his country. Therefore, about the exchange, I think so, he launches rumors to see how we will react to this," said Denisova.
The Ombudsperson declined to comment on this information, because she should receive data only from official sources, and the likes of it were not received.
At the same time, Denisova noted that in this case all seamen without exception should be released and transferred to Ukraine, and this is not about exchanges. They are prisoners of war, not political prisoners.
