Kyiv: Donald Trump said he has enough authority to declare a state of emergency in the United States in connection with the threat of illegal migration, which would allow him to receive funding from the budget to build a new border wall.

The president said this on Thursday, before flying to the state of Texas, where he intends to visit border areas, correspondent of Ukrinform reports.

“I have the absolute right to declare a state of emergency at the national level,” said Trump.

He recalled that previous presidents sometimes used it quite often.

“So far I have not done this. I can do it. If this (attempts to reach an agreement with the Congress) does not work, then I’m probably going to do that,” Trump said. He added that this would be an "easy way", but first he would "like to reach an agreement with the Congress".

Thus, President Trump is trying to get multibillion-dollar public funding to fulfill his campaign promise to build a wall on the border, which Congress does not support, and caused the government's “shutdown” in the US.
