Kyiv: Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benitez announced that his country was breaking off diplomatic relations with Venezuela and closing its embassy in Caracas.
This was reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay.
“The Government of the Republic of Paraguay, in the exercise of its constitutional powers and national sovereignty, decided to sever diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In this sense, the closure of our embassy and the immediate export of Paraguayan diplomatic workers accredited in this country were organized. Similarly, for the withdrawal of Venezuelan diplomatic personnel across the national territory, a reasonable time limit must be provided in accordance with the provisions of article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, of which Paraguay is a party,” the statement said.
It is noted that the decision to break off diplomatic relations with Venezuela does not mean that Paraguay will not be able to fulfill its usual practice of fulfilling commitments made at the international level.
