Kyiv: The National Assembly of Venezuela declared the second presidential term of Nicolas Maduro illegitimate.
This is reported by AFP.
"We confirm the illegitimacy of [the second presidential term] Nicholas Maduro," said the new president of the assembly, Juan Guaido.
According to him, from January 10, when Maduro’s new presidential period begins, the National Assembly will be “the only legal representative of the people”.
According to the CEC of Venezuela, Maduro won the presidential election in May 2018, gaining about 70 percent of the vote. Thus, he secured his tenure as president of Venezuela until 2025.
Maduro’s second term is due to begin on January 10th.
