Kinshasa: Presidential elections are holding in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. And for the first time in the last 20 years, a candidate from the democratic forces can become president of the country. This is reported by the Western media.
By approximate calculations, more than 40 million people take part in the voting. However, as noted, in several large regions, local authorities postponed the elections to March 2019, citing the threat of the Ebola virus and ethnic conflicts.
It should be noted that thanks to these elections, for the first time in the entire history of the country, power in the country will be transferred in a democratic and peaceful way. Since by this time the top positions in the country were mined by force and by means of state coups.
The election campaign started in the Congo on November 22.
We recall that in November in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo 7 United Nations peacekeepers were killed, and another ten were injured.
