Kyiv: The Appeals Court of Armenia was satisfied with the complaint of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia on the release from detention of ex-President Robert Kocharyan, accused of overthrowing the constitutional order. This was announced by his lawyer Hayk Alumyan.
“The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of the court of the first instance on the arrest. We will appeal the decision. According to the decision of the Court of Appeal, Kocharyan should be arrested,” he said.
In July 2018, a Yerevan court arrested Robert Kocharian for two months in a case of dispersing protest actions in March 2008. On August 13, the Court of Appeal of Armenia released the former president from custody on the basis of the constitutional provision on the inviolability of former heads of state. The court also did not rule out the complete closure of the criminal case of usurpation of state power.
