Kyiv: German Chancellor Angela Merkel initiated a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the local media reported.
“Putin gave an assessment of the provocative actions of the Ukrainian side, the gross violation of the norms of international law by its warships, who deliberately ignored the rules of a peaceful passage in the territorial sea of the Russian Federation,” the press service of the Russian president said.
The cause is called a “dangerous incident” at sea with the participation of the Russian military, who seized three Ukrainian ships with more than two dozen people on them. According to the Kremlin version, Ukraine is to blame for this.
Putin also "expressed serious concern over the decisions of Kyiv to bring its armed forces into full combat readiness and declare martial law."
“It is emphasized that the Ukrainian leadership bears full responsibility for the creation of another conflict situation and the associated risks. All this is clearly done taking into account the election campaign in Ukraine. Putin expressed the hope that Berlin will influence the Ukrainian authorities in order to keep it from further ill-considered steps,” the Kremlin said.
We recall that the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine approved the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the introduction of martial law in Ukraine” for a period of 30 days.
