Paris: Scientists have changed the method of determining kilogram.
Currently, it is determined by the weight of the platinum ingot called "Le Grand K", which is locked in a safe in Paris.
On Friday, researchers gathered in Versailles voted to get rid of it in favor of determining a kilogram from the point of view of electric current.
This decision was made at the General Conference on weight.
However, some scholars such as Purdy Williams at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK expressed mixed feelings about this change.
"I have not been involved with this project for too long, but I feel a strange affection for a kilogram," she said.
"I think it's such an exciting thing, and it's really a thrilling moment. So I'm a little sad. But this is an important step forward, and so the new system will work much better. It's a really exciting time now, and I can not wait for it to happen, "the scientist added.
