London: Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, illegally convicted in Russia, won another prestigious international award - the Sergei Magnitsky Prize.
According to the newspaper "Today", - "The ceremony, which took place on November 15 in London, brought together more than 200 politicians, journalists and representatives of non-profit organizations."
This award has been awarded annually since 2015 for contributing to the Magnitsky campaign, as well as for his achievements in the field of investigative journalism and the protection of human rights around the world.
In addition to Sentsov, another six candidates were awarded the award: Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, human rights activist and journalist Zoya Svetova, Guatemalan lawyers José Rolando Alvarado and Victoria Sandoval, British journalist Eliot Higgins. In addition, he was posthumously awarded US Senator John McCain, whose relatives recently agreed to nominate him for one of Kyiv’s streets.
October 25, Oleg Sentsov became the winner of the prestigious human rights award - the European Parliament Award for Freedom of Thought named after Andrei Sakharov. The award ceremony is to be held in Strasbourg on December 25th.
