Kyiv: The United States intends to introduce new sanctions in connection with the use of chemical weapons in an attempt to kill the former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter in March, in the city of Salisbury.
This Voice of America wrote about this.
It was reported that the first stage of US sanctions was introduced in August, and now, according to US law, the next and tough step is announced.
However, criticism has been addressed to the Trump administration due to the fact that it is not yet known what particular sanctions will be and when they will take action.
"It is unacceptable that the administration lacks a plan or even a time frame for action under the second phase of mandatory sanctions," Republican Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee stated this.
According to the 1991 Law on the Destruction of Chemical and Biological Weapons, Russia was not entitled to use the substance of the "Novice" class that was discovered in the English town of Salisbury after the poisoning of Skripale.
Moscow should also have allowed the inspection of its facilities by the relevant international agencies provided by the UN.
"Today, the Department informed the Congress, we cannot confirm that the Russian Federation has fulfilled the conditions," State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said in a statement.
Recall, the EU may impose sanctions against Italy, if it is not possible to agree on the budget for 2019.
