  • Germany has officially abolished the death penalty

Berlin: After the referendum in the federal state of Hesse, the death penalty was completely abolished in Germany.

This is reported by the BBC.

"Residents of the German federal state of Hesse voted to the final abolition of the death penalty in a referendum," the report said.

It is noted that 83% of voters voted for the abolition of such a penalty.

It is added that through this referendum, Hessen was the last of the federal states to amend local legislation.

Now Hesse is the only land that has the right to change its constitution.

As is known, the death penalty in the national constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany was abolished as far back as 1949.
