TOKYO (FNI) - Japanese auto giant Toyota has issued a statement to recall about 1.03 million cars. Among them, due to problems with the harness in the engine, including a petrol-hybrid Prius model. A defect increases the risk of a fire.
The company announced its intention to recall the cars after the intervention of the Ministry of Transport of Japan. There, it was found that the wiring harness connected to the hybrid power control unit could contact the coating at the junction point. Dust that accumulates on the combined parts, due to the vibration of the car, can lead to an electrical fault, which in turn leads the Prius to heat and increases the risk of a fire.
About half of the recalled cars were sold in Japan.
