VIRGINIA (FNI) - Chinese soldiers are "probably training" in the Pacific, aimed at the possible defeat of targets in the US, the Pentagon said. The annual report to Congress says that China is increasing its army really fast. The Pentagon expects China's military budget to increase to $ 240 billion over the next 10 years.
The report underscores its growing military capability, including defense spending estimated at $ 190 billion, representing one-third of the US military budget. China has not yet commented on this, reports the BBC.
"Over the past three years, the Association of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has rapidly expanded its areas of expertise in critical maritime regions and is likely to be trained to fight the US," the report said.
The People's Liberation Army can demonstrate "the ability to attack US and Allied forces and military bases in the Western Pacific, including Guam," the report adds.
The document also warns that China is preparing for a possible situation to unite Taiwan with China by force.
Tension is also continuing in the non-military sphere, both sides announced an increase in tariffs for a number of each other's goods.
