BRUSSELS (FNI) - The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Political Affairs, Federica Mogherini, immediately demands the release of Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov and other captives of the Kremlin.
The politician reported this on her official Twitter page and on the official website of the European Foreign Service.
"Oleg Sentsov is a Ukrainian film director who was detained shortly after the illegal annexation of the Russian Federation in 2014 by the Crimean peninsula. Since May 14 Sentsov is starving in a Russian prison. Sentsov's health deteriorates rapidly. We expect from Russia appropriate treatment in an medical institution, in accordance with the interim measure of the European Court of Human Rights of July 25. The European Union expects that international human rights standards on the peninsula will be supported, and all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in Russia and on the Crimean peninsula will be immediately released, "Magerini said.
The Kremlin reported that Sentsov's exchange was impossible under any circumstances. During a telephone conversation between Lyudmila Denisova and the RF Human Rights Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, no results were achieved and no compromises were found.
