KYIV (FNI) - The Kyiv district court of Poltava closed the criminal proceedings against the Kharkiv mayor Hennadiy Kernes, accused of beating activists of EuroMaidan, because of the self-elimination of prosecutors.
On this Friday, August 10, during the hearing of the case Kernes announced judge Andrei Antonov.
"The court decided to close the criminal proceedings in the case of the Kharkov mayor Hennadiy Kernes, Vitaly Blinnik and Yevgeny Siytsky in connection with the refusal of the prosecution party to debate," Judge Andrei Antonov said.
According to the judge, prosecutors in this case were absent from the last 7 meetings. Also, representatives of the prosecutor's office did not attend today's meeting.
It is also noted that this decision should be appealed within a week.
Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes, as well as his two guards, prosecutors are accused of kidnapping and beating participants of the Kharkov EuroMaidan in 2014. Kernes himself denies the charges and considers the case against him to be falsified and politically motivated.
