MOSCOW (FNI) - Russia will regard the US ban on the activities of Russian banks or the use of any particular currency as the beginning of an economic war, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday, Reuters reports.
"I would not want to comment on future sanctions, but I can say one thing: if something follows like a ban on the activities of banks or the use of a particular currency, it can be called quite directly, this is an announcement of an economic war," Medvedev said.
"And it is necessary to react by economic methods, political methods, and, if necessary, by other methods. And our American friends must understand this. "
Washington on Wednesday night reported that by the end of August it will impose new sanctions on Russia, making sure that Moscow has used a nerve agent to poison the former Russian double agent and his daughter in the UK.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday that Moscow considers it premature to talk about the possibility of introducing counter-forces in response to the measures announced by Washington and remains hopeful for building constructive relations with American partners.
