KYIV (FNI) - In the British information department reported that the social network Facebook will be issued a fine of 500 thousand pounds sterling for the illegal collection of social network users by the consulting company Cambridge Analytic.
The Office accused Facebook that they do not protect the private information of users and did not explain transparently enough what information the company shares with third parties.
The social network was fined under the old law, as the information leakage occurred before the adoption of the European Regulation on the Protection of User Data (GDPR), which provides fines of up to € 20 million, or up to 4% of total revenue, The Guardian reports.
In March 2018, The New York Times and The Observer reported that Cambridge Analytic collected personal data from Facebook users to compile political portraits of voters. This company cooperated with the election headquarters of Donald Trump, as well as with the organizers of Brexit.
Two months later, in early May, the company decided to terminate its activities.
